Divisional Forest Officer Satinder Sagar Challaned For Breaking Traffic Laws

An Indian Forest Service (IFS) official paid a hefty fine on May 27 night for not fulfilling traffic regulations.

The officer’s official car got challaned, the blue beam at the top eradicated and the vehicle seized.

The car got released on Tuesday morning after the Indian Forest Service (IFS) official made the payment of the challan and forwarded the related papers.

Police functionaries stated that the functionary Bolero vehicle given to city’s Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Satinder Sagar, was challaned in close proximity to his official abode, late May 27 night, when the car’s driver refused to show registration documents of the car, his license and documents for making use of the blue light at the top of the car, at a police stop.

1,274 Posts In Patiala To Be Filled Soon In Various Depts

The Punjab cabinet has approved for Patiala’s filling and revival for the 175 vacant posts for the teaching and non-teaching staff in the Industrial Department. Apart from this 30 regular and 25 outsourced posts have been created for setting up as Instructor Training Wing with assistance from the World Bank at the Industrial Training Institute, Lalru.

This decision will help the state of Patiala to build its capacity for skill development and allow to start apprenticeship’s micro training, small and medium entrepreneurship along with providing quality training and help the youth of Patiala to gain employment.

To give the horticulture sector of Patiala impetus, the cabinet has allowed the recruitment of 45 Horticulture Development Officers (HDOs) by the Horticulture Department of Patiala. State Bank Of Patiala Net Profit Declines On Stressed Assets, Staff Cost Rise

For the fiscal completed on March 31, State Bank of Patiala (SBoP) has registered a decline of 16% in its net profit, which remained at Rs 666.76 crore owing to stressed assets and increase in staff expenses.

Public sector lender had registered an increase in the net profit, which stood at Rs 796.45 crore during the same period of the last fiscal.

Bank’s gross and net non-performing assets (NPAs) remained up by 3.25% and 1.62% respectively during the period under review as against 2.94% and 1.35% during 2011-12, respectively, it added.

“Our complete non-performing asset remained at Rs 1,194 crore and our attempts will be to bring the net non-performing asset by 1% during this fiscal,” managing director Achal Kumar Gupta told media people.

“But, the default in loaning amounts was not industry segment specific, rather it was unit specific.”

“We have NPAs in businesses as well as agriculture,” he stated.

Though the banking institution’s employee per biz grew up to Rs 10.14 crore during the past fiscal, SBoP’s employee cost also surged up to Rs 959.49 crore during the period under review, up as against Rs 834.75 crore as on March 31, 2012, he added.

Gupta further stated that SBoP’s main concern will also be to augment proportion of Casa (Current Account Saving Account), directed at lowering cost of deposits.

“We wish to lift up our Current Account Saving Account percentage from 25% as compared to 30% during this financial year,” he said.

At a press meeting that took place on May 25, Ajit Pal Singh, together with other 10 councillors, equated his period as mayor with the Congress period from the year 2002 to the year 2007.

“During their term, the Congress have only one success: that they took a loaning amount of Rs. 45 crore that turned made the municipal corporation insolvent and created troubles in growth, as the MC stayed busy in clearing the loaning sum with interest,” added Ajit Pal Singh.

Ajit Pal Singh stated that in his term, Rs. 102 crore was expended on growth and setting up of new sewer, extending lower as well as upper Mall, setting up approximately 25 tubewells in addition to re-carpeting of all roads.

“As mayor, I spent approximately Rs. 150 crore in Patiala during five year term, whilst Capt Amarinder Singh as up CM had expended just Rs. 45 crore that also was a loaning sum,” he added.

Directing Capt Amarinder and Preneet Kaur, the ex Patiala mayor stated, “In actual fact, for the past 10 year period, Patiala Congressmen have turned orphans as neither the local MLA is obtainable in Patiala nor the local MP expends time in the city. As a result, in aggravation, Congressmen are eyeing the Akali control.”

“Tell me, which giant plan Amarinder or Preneet have brought to Patiala,” he queried. “This is why the Congress lost in the assembly polls in the state and Raninder Singh lost from Samana as voters were attentive that the regal family was out-of-the-way and had nothing to do with people’s worries.”

Kohli defied the local Congress MLA and the MP to have an open discussion on the growth of Patiala.

On May 25, the Congressmen had charged Shiromani Akali Dal for the alleged disregard of the city and directed the ex as well as present mayors.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited To Spend Rs. 1611.43 Cr To Lessen Power Losses

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is eyeing to fortify power infrastructure mainly to lessen commercial as well as technical losses in 39 cities of Punjab by the next two year period (June 2015) that would result into an expenditure of around Rs. 1611.43 crore.

Around Rs. 48.31 crore would be spent in the city of Bathinda,  Rs. 77.72 crore in the city of Hoshiarpur, Rs. 210.86 crore in the city of Amritsar, Rs. 190 crore in the city of Jalandhar and Rs. 442.32 crore in the city of Ludhiana to diminish commercial plus technological losses.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited To Spend Rs. 1611.43 Cr To Lessen Power Losses

On May 24, Mr. KD Chaudhry, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chairman stated that below the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Plan, the corporation would slash power losses to around 15 per cent or even lower than this.

Mr. KD added that under the novel project, new power grids would be established, capacitance of old sub-stations augmented, old distribution transformers substituted by latest ones with extra load capacitance etc.

Chaudhry also said that load of sub-station transformer lines would be reduced to below 70%; electricity meters would be installed outside houses and new electricity cables laid.

The project would be finished by June 2015 and the work had already been granted to A2Z of Gurgaon, Larson &Tubro (L&T), and Godrej of Mumbai.

The power infrastructure upgrade in the city of Patiala had already been finished by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

The total cost spent in the city stood at Rs. 30 crore that had resulted into decline of electricity losses by around 22 per cent to 12 per cent, he claimed.

 

NCC To Be Revamped: Lt Gen PS Bhalla

Lt Gen PS Bhalla, National Cadet Corps (NCC) director general, on May 21 stated that the NCC necessitated to be refurbished with the aim to strengthen the curiosity of present day’s youngsters.

At the college level, this year, 30 independent universities will offer NCC as an optional subject and would revise the outcome of its execution.

On the issue of non-issuance of uniforms to cadets for 2 years, the DG added that by June 2013, dresses and shoes together with workout suits would be provided to cadets.

He said that by June 2013, a national-level seminar would be held in the national capital where the human resource development head would discuss the alterations to be executed in the NCC rules.

Punjabi University Not Able To Distribute Pension

Financial disaster appears to have hit Patiala based Punjabi University as hoards of its ex staffers (teaching as well as non-teaching) are yet to receive their pension for the last month.

University functionaries stated that the retirement fund has been postponed as they have used up the amount marked for the purpose because of an increase in the monthly retirement fund after execution of the 5th as well as the 6th Pay Commission. They stated that they have now made a temporary arrangement to give out the retirement fund.

But, the pensionaries claim whilst the university is spending hefty amounts on the constructing novel structures, they are being brushed aside.

Punjabi University Not Able To Distribute Pension

In the meantime, Punjabi University has not been forwarding the grand provident fund payments in the accounts of its working staff since October last year.

The staff, under the banner of the Punjabi University Teachers Coordination group, recently forwarded a note to the Vice Chancellor.

Though Punjabi University has now made two payments, the payment for 6 month period is still pending.

Registrar Dr AS Chawla stated that Punjabi University was exercising modalities and was expected to liberate the pension in a period of seven days.

“From 2013, we have effected an alteration in our bookkeeping system. We have outsourced the work to make it completely computerized. At the present, we are almost through with this work,” he said.

Dr AS Chawla claimed the trouble stood up since Punjabi University generated insignificant income in May every year.

“Now, with the admissions for engineering set to start by june, we will be in an easy position. We will forward the remaining GPF payments by June 2013,” Dr AS Chawla also said.

Power Engineers Threaten To Resume Strike Against PSPCL

A threat has been given by the power engineers to revive agitation against the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) management, if the agreed demands are not implemented. During an emergency meeting the decision was taken by the executive committee of PSEB Engineers Association.

Sajveen Sood Association general secretary stated June 5 was set as deadline to implement the demands. This decision was taken in the meeting held in March.

Power Engineers Threaten To Resume Strike Against PSPCL

If by June 5 PSPCL fails the association will go on its agitation from June 10.

The PSEBEA also expressed its anguish on the delay implement of the agreed demands and called it an inordinate delay and that this is affecting the service provided to the consumers also.

The associates’ committee also feels there is a deliberate attempt in not fulfilling the commitments.

As per Mr. Sajveen Sood, association general secretary, “We had fixed June 5 as the closing date to put the verdicts into practice taken in the management’s gathering took place during the month of March. If the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) organization failed, the union will be forced to restart its campaigning from 10th of the coming month.”

“In the gathering PSEBEA showed its suffering on the excessive postponement in carrying out the settled demands that, they said, were affecting the services being offered to the clients,” Mr. Sajveen Sood added up.
