Patiala girl, Navneet Kaur Dhillon, who won the Miss India 2013 competition, which took place in Mumbai on March 24, 2013, said that now her main objective is to bring ‘Miss World Crown’ back to her country.

At present, the 20-year-old Navneet is pursuing media course from Punjabi University, Patiala.

Now the energetic lass will represent her nation globally in Miss Universe competition. She also bagged the Femina Miss Glowing skin honor.

In addition, Miss Dhillon was the participator of ‘I am She 2012’.

When Dhillon made it to the top 10 place, she chooses John Abraham and John questioned Navneet, “If there were no rules in your life for one day, and you could be outrageous what would you do?”

She politely answered, “I would ride a horse in the busiest streets and go on the tallest building and scream that this world is so beautiful, so live it to the fullest.”

While answering a question, she also said, “Though I have already started receiving offers for advertisements and ramp modelling from different companies, I don’t want to lose my focus from preparing myself for the Miss World competition. It’s been 13 years since India last pocketed this title in the year 2000 and I want to feel the pride of bringing it back to make my nation. So, my only preference at this stage is to bring the crown back.”

She also said that she would like to finish her BTech in media studies at CAMS, Patiala.

Punjabi University Teacher Charged Of Slapping Research Scholar Transferred

The Punjabi University authorities on March 25 shifted the tutor who was charged of hitting a research student.

The teacher, Mr. Gurjant Singh of Punjabi department, has been transferred to University College of Engineering (UCE), located in the campus only.

But, the Punjabi University Research Scholar Association (PURSA) had been calling for his removal from office.

Vice-chancellor Mr. Jaspal Singh has placed transfer orders on the back of statement of the 5-member truth-finding group. The group, in its report forwarded on Wednesday last week, had detected the professor on the wrong side.

On February 28 evening, Mr. Gurjant, a teacher in Punjabi section, supposedly hit and ill-treated Harpreet Singh, a research scholar of the similar section.

After the matter mounted, pupils staged protests, asking for dismissal of Mr. Gurjant.

In the meantime, Punjabi University Research Scholar Association has showed approval over the relocation of Mr. Gurjant.

“The matter was to be decided at one point or the other. In addition, relocation, the teacher has been forwarded caution that if he repeats similar type of mistakes after this, he will not be out of danger. It’s our win. Besides, hurt research scholar is also pleased with the action,” said PURSA president Inderjeet Singh.

Bhagat Chunni Lal, who was in the city of Patiala on his private visit to the house of newly-elevated state secretary of the BJP Gurtej Dhillon, lashed out at the claims that the price of property tax was more prominent in the city of Patiala as against other cities.

“This is the misinformation of the Congress. Trust me, those who are shouting over the matter, are in fact not the tax-payers but the Congress employees,” Lal said.

But, the minister admitted that a few matters regarding the execution of the property tax requires to be answered and the administration has decided to create a uniform strategy for Punjab.

He added that execution of the property tax would defy the BJP, as following among the dealers was the power of the party.

“Still, we are doing our best to put less load on the ordinary man and they will have to comprehend that this tax is only for their improvement. The money gathered via property tax will be spent on the growth of their city,” he said.

As per latest reports, Dr. Rakesh Jain, senior medical officer, ended his life journey by jumping before a train on March 26 morning.

2 PCS Officers Shifted, Added Charge Given To IAS

As per Section 38 (3) of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act-1976, the corporation is adhered to hold the poll for a permanent mayor in a period of 30 days from the date of resignation of the earlier one.

“In the incidence of any casual post in the mayor office, senior deputy mayor or deputy mayor, the corporation shall in a period of 30 days of the happening of such vacancy choose one of its associates as mayor or senior deputy mayor or deputy mayor, as the case may be, and every individual so chosen shall hold office for the rest of his predecessor’s period of office,” reads Section 38 (3) of the act.

Corporations’ joint commissioner Najar Singh said Jaspal Pardhan forwarded their resignations on February 25 repectively; thus the poll has to be carried out on or before March 25.

Panchkula, Ludhiana Leg Of Indian Grand Prix Athletics Transferred To NIS, Patiala

As per latest reports, the initial leg of Indian Grand Prix athletic contest, which was planned to take place in Panchkula, has been transferred to NIS Patiala.

The report added that the contest was to be held in Panchkula on March 31.

Also, the second leg of the Indian Grand Prix, to be held on April 6 in Ludhiana, have also been moved to NIS Patiala whilst the third and concluding leg, proposed to take place in the national capital on April 13, has been deferred owing to clash of dates with the AGM of the AFI.

The Annual General Body Meeting of the Athletics Federation of India, which will take place in Delhi on April 13 and 14, will choose the president, secretary and treasurer of the federation, in addition to taking verdicts on some other key matters.

The locations of the initial and second legs of the Indian Grand Prix athletic contest have also been transferred from Panchkula and Ludhiana to Patiala respectively though the dates — March 31 and April 6 — have been remained unaltered.

Both the occasions will now take place at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala.

The national capital was also to host the 17th Federation Cup Senior Athletics contests from April 23 to 26. However, the contests will now be held at NIS Patiala on the similar dates.

The ballots to the positions of president, secretary and treasurer of the Athletics Federation of India are being held after the Sports Ministry denied to make out the incumbents selected in the polls during March 2012.

Rotary Club Patiala Celebrates World TB Day

On Monday, the Rotary Club of Patiala has organized a function on the eve of the World TB Day.

The Rotary Club has made all these arrangements for the employees and workers of PRTC (Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation) in order to make them aware about the ill effects of this disease.

3 Junior Female Lifters Allege Nuisance At NIS; Shubham Verma Suspended

As per latest reports, a 19-year-old lifter got suspended by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for supposedly troubling 3 junior female weightlifters at the NIS, Patiala.

The 3 troubled junior weightlifters have alleged nuisance by Shubham Verma, a silver medalist at the Youth Nationals during November 2012.

He has been charged of making frequent phone calls, sending SMSs, gazing at the girls all the time with an aim of making sexual advances towards them.

The issue came to the notice of the Indian Weightlifting Federation when 3 of them forwarded a handwritten complaint against Shubham to their respective coaches and showed the phone data of his cellular phone number.

The coaches took instant action and suggested severe disciplinary action against the boy.

“Shubham Verma has been suspended by the Indian Weightlifting Federation and then removed from the Patiala campground,” IWF president and Member of Parliament, Birendra Prasad Baishya stated

“The issue reached us and we took direct action against Verma. The claims are of grave nature,” he added.

IWF secretary, Sahdev Yadav stated Haryana Weightlifting Association convener, Satpal Singh has been asked to clarify in writing the bad behavior of Shubham in a period of 15 days.

“We have forwarded a note to Satpal and demanded him to react in writing in a period of 15 days of the receiving of this letter. One more letter has been sent to Shubham asking him to clarify in writing why he made calls to the females and annoyed them,” said Yadav.

Yadav said that the boy admitted his fault after the coaches confirmed the claims of the youth weightlifters.

Verma failed to reach for his remarks as he has momentarily reserved his number.

10th PSEB English Paper Leaked; Students Suffer

Yesterday, Punjab school education board (PSEB) reprinted a Class X state board English question paper in Banur after it got leaked, resulting into muddled scenes at the examination centres.

Hoards of pupils, ready and waiting outside the exam centres, had to confront uneasy moments as the arrangement for the new paper postponed the start of exam by around two hours.

Directorate general of school education (DGSE), which supervises the administrative schools in the state of Punjab, on Monday addressed deputy commissioner to inquire the police to lodge an FIR against unidentified people.

“The leak was noticed at 9.15pm on Sunday after a telephone call by an attentive shopper at a photocopy centre to the region education officer, and the DGSE office was then appraised of the occurrence at 10 pm. We wasted no time in making a fresh paper. I have forwarded the directions to region the authorities to go on with an FIR,” K S Pannu, DGSE chief stated.

The newly printed English paper had to be net-mailed to all centres in the regions, he added up.

The happening took place just two days after an Amritsar BJP head, together with his 15-year-old son, had beaten up school administrators and flashed a gun at them for discontinuing his daughter from copying at an examination centre.

“As there is no proof against anybody, we are making attempts to find who are behind the paper leak,” said the deputy commissioner.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Zoya Afroz were declared as the first and second runners-up respectively. The three top beauties were chosen from 23 contenders from all over the nation.

Bollywood hotties Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra added flavor to the event, which was judged by well known movie maker Karan Johar, ace choreographer Shiamak Dawar, energetic Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, famous fashion designer Ritu Kumar, and talented actors John Abraham, Asin Thottumkal and Chitrangda Singh.
