It has been approximately seven years when BRO (Border Roads Organization) initiated their construction of Rs. 83 crore projects in Patiala for the bypass however; it still awaits its completion. This bypass was supposed to be made for army importance.

Additionally, it is also an evident fact that the BRO had already finished the work of land acquisition till 2006 and therefore, it has also missed the four important deadlines.

However, the state government has warned the BRO to complete the pending work of bypass by the 15 August. It also stated that this incomplete work is the perfect example of apathy towards the sate and army.

With completion of this bypass the people coming from Zirakpur, Sangrur and Bathinda could be easily connected to Patiala and many other districts easily.

According .to the sources the Punjab government has finally managed to give a start to the work of bypass and after this they will initiate a traffic exit plans.

It must be noted that the BRO has been delaying the project since it was given the project. The project was handed to the BRO in 2006 which finally got start in 2007. This project was supposed to be finished March 2011 at the cost of Rs. 83 crore but due to the rise of the cost of the project to Rs. 110 crore. The deadline was again revised till October 2012 which was obviously missed again.

The Deputy Commissioner of Patiala GK Singh took up matter with state government, and after that he wrote to Army. Thereafter, he regularly initiated meetings with BRO officials on the same issue and they gave their assurance that project could be easily completed by the date of June 30, 2013.

The BRO has also assured in meeting that work will be completed till July 30. However, govt. officials think that organization will not be able to finish the work on their committed time. Therefore, government will monitor the progress of project on regular basis from now on.

AK Agrwal, who is the senior engineer of BRO talked to the Tribune and said that the main reason behind the lagging of the project was that the contractors left the project in between. He also said that now he could be somewhat assured that the project will not be kept on hold for a very long time since the state government wants to finish the project as soon as possible.
