SAI Congratulates The Indian Weightlifting Team

Having an excellent record of winning 27 medals, in the Asian Youth Championships, held in Doha, the Indian weightlifting team was congratulated at Sports Authority of India.

In a meet from May 28 to June 1, held in the Quateri capital, this team, which consisted of seven girls and eight boys, won 13 gold medals and 7 silver medals and few bronze medals.

DG Jiji Thomson said that the performance was by the players gone outstanding and the effort made by them was very good.  He also thanked the SAI for picking such players from the country and forming the Weightlifting team. He also added that the overall performance was very good as the team compete against the best teams of the world.

SAI spent a great amount of money in making this team. It spent 5.2 crores for the team. Different kinds of branded bands, belts, guards were brought from the foreign countries. Different equipments for the weightlifting were also brought into the coaching camps. Demands for many other types of equipment were also sanctioned by the government for the team and is expected to come to the team shortly.

The request is being made for improving the diet and supplement charts for the players. A request has been made to the sport minister for increasing the daily allowance of food chart from Rs 200 to Rs 250.

Thomas adds the success for winning these many medals as longer term planning and practice which the team made for their country.
