Rajindra Hospital Playing With Lives Of Patients; Distributes Expired Medications To Wards

Playing games with the lives of hoards of sufferers, the Government Rajindra Hospital functionaries have made accessible a big amount of expired medications to various wards.

The Government Rajindra Hospital functionaries have also given a few medications, which are near their expiry dates and top functionaries have ordered them to “expel these before expiry”.

Hoards of life-saving medications and other drugs, which are near expiry in 30 days, are stocked unutilized in the hospital storage rooms.

Sources added that Rajindra Hospital had bought medications around Rs fifty lakh whilst a big amount of medications had been stocked unutilized in the hospital room for many months.

“The authorities at the present wish to forward the money to the lower personnel,” added a source.

Sources added that Rajindra Hospital functionaries had distributed these medications without obtaining any demand from the staff nurses. There are more than 40 such medications, which largely consist of 613 jabs of hydro-cortisone that end on May 31, besides 1,000 dexamethasone jabs that expire by the coming month. Around 1,000 Dericyclin jabs will end in the coming month and 1,800 diclofenac jabs will end this month.

Independent probes by media people disclosed that these stockpiled medications nearing ending date are obtainable at only 10 to 20% of their max retail price in the marketplace. Chemists also wish to dispose of this stock.

According to the set process, the head nurse shows a demand memo that is checked by the Deputy Medical Superintendent of Rajindra hospital.

Sources said that the demand note was suggested by the in-charge of a store and it was signed by a salesclerk and the Medical Superintendent of the Rajindra hospital.

Regarding this, Dr VK Sharda, Medical Superintendent of Rajindra hospital, stated, “Ward no. one has been shut down for the last few months for repairs and it was the head nurse that had been looking after the complete stock for the last few months. She took this step to insult me as well as the hospital and I would take appropriate action against the nurse.”

Rebutting the claims, the sister head stated that with the aim to defend his skin, the Medical Superintendent Dr VK Sharda was directing her. “He is laying stress on me to take the duty or else he would issue suspension notice against me. There was no option left with me. Each and every medication is approved by him,” she added.

When questioned as to why she hadn’t inked the drug order, Dr Harshinder Kaur, Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital, answered, “Previously, it was my work to check the indent books, however a few months back, Sharda had accepted this work from me. I have taken this to the notice of top officials.”
