PSERC Saves The Consumers From The Meter Theft In Patiala

In one of the reliefs provided by the PSERC (Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission) said that if the meters are installed outside those of a consumer or his premises in Patiala along with the other regions of state. Then he shall not be responsible for the damage of theft of that particular meter.

The commission finally amended the subject code when it got under the notice that it was PSPCL (Punjab state power corporation limited) who had installed those meters outside houses of the consumers.

In the same notification, another clause has been amended wherein it has been provided that in case the cost of burnt meter was charged on the consumer, he must be provided with an investigation report attributing reasons for the damage. The theft cases will be registered if the seal is found tampered or broken in his/her custody.

The notification has also already sent since it has been issued for inserting clause that in any case the meter is installed outside premises of the consumer, he will not be responsible for the damage to meter or any theft with seal.

In the third variation which was made for identifying the cost in situation of ‘unauthorized use of electricity’ (UUE). The cost under UUE will be billed if customer is discovered to be using some type of load for any other purpose or has prolonged to provide supply to his other property. In such situations, the PSPCL will ask for the cost on the complete load however now onwards it would cost only for the unexpected load.

Henceforth, area lineman and younger professional involved will be responsible in securing the principal pillar boxes to make sure no harm is done to the meters. In most of cases, the PSPCL workers did not close the principal containers in meters which were set up outside premises of customer.

Amended 21.2 of power code

The licensee might also need a gauge to be set up outside the property of a customer and in such type of case, the whole price of setting up the gauge outside the property and offering a show device within the property will be carried by the PSPCL. However, the price of device will be handled as part of the gauge price while identifying gauge accommodations. The device may not be set up by the licensee if customer so chooses.
