PRTC All Set To Modernize All 10 Depots

A group of the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune, visited the state during the month February to overlook the working of Punjab Road Transport Corporation. After probing the functioning of all the bus stations in the state, the Central Institute of Road Transport group forwarded their report to the Ministry of Surface Transport in order that the ministry could give PRTC funds to update itself.

Mr. DPS Kharbanda, PRTC Managing Director stated that the terminals would be computerized that would make the functioning of the organization more efficient, comprising paying salaries, pensions and gratuity.

“The Global Positioning System (GPS) that will be installed in all our buses will help us monitor the routes of the buses. We will know the exact position of a bus and the number of trips it has made on the click of a mouse. This will assist us in curtailing our expenditure by 15 to 20 per cent. Since the revenue is fixed, cutting on our expenses will help in improving the finances of the organisation,” added Mr. DPS Kharbanda.

The implementing authority – Central Institute of Road Transport will start the functioning by the coming month.
