Flood-Like Situation In Patiala Localities

The two recent spells of the heavy rains have led to a flood like situation in the city. The MC officials were nowhere in the sight during the weekend when most of the parts of the city were submerged in water.

Though the municipal corporation had spent crores of rupees on laying a new sewer and drainage system, it failed to serve the purpose. Rainwater had submerged in several localities, including Model Town, Lehal Colony, Charan Bagh, Gian Colony, Punjabi Bagh, Tripuri.

A few years ago, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had approved special grants for the Patiala Municipal Corporation for development works. In spite of having funds at its disposal, the MC has failed to solve the water logging problem.

Former Patiala Mayor Vishnu Sharma claimed that the nullahs in the city were covered during the Congress regime and it was made sure that the same were cleaned before the monsoon. He said that for the past few years, the MC has not been cleaning the nullahs. This year too, it started the exercise after the monsoon hit the region.

The Mayor of Patiala Amrinder Bazaz said that they are trying their best to get rid of this problem but not much can be done at this time due to the sudden showers.
