Finally Decks Are Cleared For Rail Over Bridge Near DMW Workshop

After a long pending demand from the residents of Patiala, the state government has given the go signal for the construction of Rail Over Bridge (ROB) near the level crossing at the DMW workshop near the Sirhind-Rajpura bypass which will cost about 20 crores.

Though in 2012 the decks were cleared but the wait for the government’s approval was waiting on hand. Speaking at a meeting held in Chandigarh on Thursday PWD Minister Sharanjeet Dhillon cleared there are no more obstacles and very soon the tenders work shall also commence. Also the money required for this project has been sanctioned.

This bypass is used for going to Rajpura along with other industrial towns like Mandi Gobindgarh, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ludhiana. The based industrialists here also had given a demand for the ROB so they could get unobstructed commuting for their goods.

Apart from the industrialists Employees and students of the Punjab University who have to daily commute from nearby towns like Fatehgarh Sahib, Sirhind and other villages will also be the beneficiaries.

For the bridge construction RITES (multi-disciplinary government consultance organization) has already conducted a study for the layout and length of the bridge.

Meanwhile the locals have welcomed the sanction of the ROB with open arms. Apart from being a boon for Patiala Industry that is situated in Focal Point, the ROB will also ease up the congested city for motorists who try to avoid the level crossing detour from Dukhniwaran Sahib. This was confirmed by Naresh Gupta, Former president of Patiala Industrial Association.

Former Patiala Mayor Ajit Pal Kohli, who had pushed this project during his tenure, said that this project shall be an achievement for the SAD-BJP government.

He also added that he had met the then Railway minister who was ready to fund the project. The congress also belied the SAD was not keen in development of Patiala as it is home to Capt. Amarinder Singh.

He also thanked deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal for the clearance.
