Chief Secy To Go Before SC Panel Today

On May 13, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes will carry out a hearing on the non-execution of the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan (SCSP) in Punjab.

Previously, commission chairman PL Punia had directed the Punjab administration to discover how many welfare plans under the proposal had not been executed and forward the steps taken report by Monday.

Chief secretary Rakesh Singh, principal secretary of finance Satish Chandra and welfare secretary Anurag Aggarwal are to attend the May 13 hearing of a complaint that Paramjit Singh Kainth, president of the Chamar Mahan Sabha, has filed.

Below the Planning Commission rules, the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan is to be prepared on a yearly basis, with allotment at least in line with the Scheduled Caste population, which is just 28.85 per cent in the state.

In the last fiscal 2012- 13, the state administration had allotted Rs. 4,039 crore to the plans for the boost of the SC society by providing for residential educational institutions, pupil hostels, coaching centres for higher study examinations in all regions, repayment of college charges, self-financing courses, and working females’ hostels etc.
