Admissions Open At Thapar University

One of the most former private universities in the nation, Thapar University (TU) came into existence in the year 1956. Introduced as Thapar University of Engineering and Technology, the institution afterward came forth as a deemed university.

K.K. Raina, director of Thapar University, stated that the renowned institution was the dream of Lala Karan Chand Thapar, originator of the institution who went up with the thought shortly after the partition.

The nation then required expert engineers and hence the job was to generate motivated and extremely trained technical personnel for the country.

Ms. Seema Bawa, dean, TU, stated, “The majority of our pupils (numbering 4,000) are from the Punjab, national capital, HP and J&K. Even though we have pupils from the other States, we would like to invite more students from the southern States to apply to TU and add to the existing multicultural ambience of the campus.”

Another USP here is the importance given to sports. Each student has to pursue any one sporting activity.

The institute is licensed by NAAC and government and scholarly set-up is like that of IITs.

“The strong point of our university is our talent. During the academic year 2012-13, 515 research papers have been published. 60% of our faculty (total 235) have completed their Ph.D.s and many have completed their post doctoral as well,” says Mr. Raina.

A few of the text books penned by TU teachers a couple of decades back, continues to be prescribed by leading institutes in the nation, said Dr. Seema.

Thapar’s placement record has been 90% constantly over the years.
